The Governor’s Academy is the oldest continuously operating boarding school in the nation. It prepares students for a successful future while celebrating the traditions of a long history. Since its founding days, students have grown into the kind of leaders who put the needs of the wider world before their own.

Its earliest graduates helped shape a young nation, among them, a Revolutionary War hero, a naval commander, and a signer of the Declaration of Independence. Today, while much has changed, the heart of what the academy does is the same—educating the leaders of tomorrow. The Governor’s Academy experience provides students in grades 9 to 12 with the tools they need to become citizen leaders of the world.

 Academics

Our academic programs are rigorous and relevant; students actively participate in the learning process and are well prepared for college and the lives they will lead after they graduate. The Governor’s Academy is unique in that we have the small class sizes that foster engaged learning, but offer an expansive curriculum that rivals that of schools twice our size.

 Special Highlights

Student Publications. Students at The Governor’s Academy hone their writing and editing skills while working on the staff of The Governor, the Academy’s student newspaper, or The Spire, the school’s literary magazine. The Governor is an award-winning newspaper, written and edited by a team of student journalists. The newspaper was founded in 1950, and is published approximately 12 times per year or three times per fall, winter and spring.

Tech Theatre. Afternoon Tech supports the three major drama productions, plus other on-campus special events, such as concerts and guest musicians. Learn how to call a show, stage management, lighting, sound, videography, costuming, props construction, and scenic design.
