Ross School was founded by Courtney and Steven J. Ross in 1991 to address the urgent need for children around the world to be prepared for and engaged in a future global society. The School quickly grew from the initial three students and by 1996 comprised a full middle school serving girls in grades 5, 6, 7 and 8. The following year a co-ed high school was added, and the first class graduated in 2001. By that time the School was working closely with the Ross Institute to share the Ross Model with other schools and municipalities around the world.

In 2002, the Middle School became co-ed and the School began working with its first international partner, Tensta Gymnasium, in Stockholm. In 2005, Ross School received accreditation from the Middle States Association (MSA) and was also chosen to receive the first International Credential ever awarded by MSA. The Lower School was added to Ross School in 2006. A boarding program was added in 2008 and continues to expand.

Our mission is to change the way education meets the future; to foster interdisciplinary, integrated thinking and innovative leadership; to engage fully in the global community; and to facilitate lifelong learning.

 Academics

The Ross educational experience aims to impart to young people a 21st century skill set and the inspiration that will motivate them to keep their minds actively engaged in learning. Ross School offers a dynamic environment where students take an active role in their learning. The School stresses direct personal experiences, inquiry through primary sources, and hands-on interpretation and analysis of information. Within a curricular framework based in world cultural history, classroom activities are designed and presented to integrate the arts, writing, literature, health and well-being, and computer technology.

 Special Highlights

Green Initiatives. From classes focusing on the environment to our renowned café that serves regional, organic and seasonal food, Ross students learn to become aware of their natural surroundings. Conservation is woven into the curriculum as the School continues to change the way education meets the future.

Photographers’ Lecture Series. The arts at Ross are an essential component of the core cultural history curriculum. Through integrated arts classes, students engage in their own art production while studying the artifacts, architecture and performing arts of the cultures they explore. Ross students also have opportunities to pursue media studies and enroll in a variety of arts electives in music, theater, studio art, graphic design, photography, film and museum studies.
