Oak Grove School is a progressive co-educational day and boarding school serving students from preschool through college preparatory high school. We are located in beautiful Ojai, California, just north of Los Angeles, and since 1975 our unique approach to education has been a model for educators around the world.
We strive to create A Climate for Inquiry, and as a community of learners we are dedicated to developing our minds, our bodies, and our hearts through The Art of Living and Learning; these arts permeate everything we do at Oak Grove School. Students here become part of a caring community that fosters mindfulness, understanding, creative expression, and awareness of self, others, and the world.
Academics
Your OGS education will include opportunities for hands-on and project-based learning, as well as traditional academic coursework. We believe in collaborating and investigating together, encouraging you to explore, question, and engage the world around you. While memorization has a place, students are also asked to think deeply, approach learning from multiple perspectives, and make connections across disciplines. Beyond the classroom we encourage self-expression through art, music, and drama and selflessness through community service opportunities. Your Oak Grove education will empower you with responsibility and ownership of your own learning so you are fully prepared to meet the demands of college and beyond.
Special Highlights
Senior Trip to India. Seniors participate in a month-long trip, visiting some of Oak Grove’s seven sister schools in India. Preparation and follow-up for the trip is incorporated into the interdisciplinary unit of English IV as well as World Religions and Cultures. A community service project is also part of this trip’s purpose. In addition to the senior trip to India where Oak Grove students visit our sister schools, teachers from the British and Indian schools frequently visit Oak Grove providing opportunities for cultural exchange.
Daily Advisory Class. Each grade level has an Advisory Class with a dedicated teacher who acts as advisor and advocate for the students. Classes include relevant curriculum by grade level and offer opportunities to explore a broad spectrum of subjects including psychology, philosophy, culture, interpersonal relationship, and the nature of the human condition. The curriculum may integrate academic support, council, meditation, compassionate communication, conflict resolution, team building, or issues naturally arising in the class. Students develop supportive relationships with adults they trust, as well as with their peers.

What the school looks for in students…
“Students who do best at Oak Grove are those who are looking for a small family style boarding program that is big on community, can embrace a vegetarian diet, are open to lots of new experiences and adventures outside their comfort zone which includes playing sports every season, and who love the outdoors and nature.”
