Roger Williams University is a private institution that was founded in 1956. It’s set on a 140-acre campus in a suburban location overlooking Mount Hope Bay in Bristol, Rhode Island, a short trip from Providence, Boston, and New York. Students at Roger Williams have the opportunity to join more than 80 clubs and organizations, including the Campus Entertainment Network, which plans and programs events on campus. RWU requires freshmen and sophomore students to live on campus, with more than half of total student population choosing to do so. Courses in both the liberal arts and professional fields of study prepare students in the classroom for their future career aspirations. Our specialties range from marine biology to architecture, engineering and the Arts, with most students combining programs to customize their degree. With more than 50 programs of undergraduate study, academic programs and personalized attention are at the heart of the Roger Williams experience. RWU also features study-abroad opportunities in over 30 countries.

Academics

Roger Williams University enrolls approximately nearly 5,000 undergraduate and graduate students in its eight schools. These schools offer distinctive professional degree programs, such as Marine Biology, Architecture, Historic Preservation, Construction Management, and Master of Studies in Law degree. Roger Williams is accredited by the New England Commission of Higher Education. RWU features Rhode Island’s only law school and a full suite of programs for a wide profile of students at its University College. The student-faculty ratio at Roger Williams University is 14:1, and the school has 44% of its classes with fewer than 20 students. Popular majors include Business, Management, Marketing, Architecture, and Communications and Journalism.

Not every student arrives with a specific area of focus in mind, so we make it easy for you to explore the many majors within GSB before you choose what sparks your passion. Exploratory student resources include: Bloomberg Businessweek self-assessment exercises, which have been developed by the most talented business faculty in the world, and a first-year course, Enterprise, that covers multiple business challenges. It even allows you to develop a plan to launch your own business.

School Mission & Unique Qualities

Roger Williams University is inextricably connected to Roger Williams, the 17th-century leader devoted to freedom of conscience and social justice who founded a community in Rhode Island based on those tenets. The School of Justice Studies is dedicated to preparing students to successfully meet the challenges facing modern justice system. Through courses taught by academic experts and experienced practitioners, students acquire in-depth views of today’s justice system. Outside the classroom, students gain invaluable hands-on experience through internships, applied research, and training. The University has campuses in London and Florence; sister institutions in France, Brazil, Vietnam, and Hong Kong. RWU is home to a Center for Macro Projects and Diplomacy, combining engineering, architecture, technology, economic development, and international relations for a common purpose.
