Since its founding in 1888, Westminster School has been committed to a challenging, college-preparatory experience. Its core values: community, character, balance, involvement, and its commitment to excellence are the lifeblood of the school. Its motto describes the community – “virtute et numine” – by grit and grace.

Westminster is a diverse, close-knit community of nearly 100 faculty and 400 students from across the country and around the world (23 countries). The School, on its 200-acre campus overlooking the Farmington Valley, is a place where scholarship, citizenship, sportsmanship and leadership thrive. Admission is highly selective and based on more than excellent grades. We seek young men and women who have accomplished much already and who hold the promise of achieving more in an environment that simultaneously pushes and supports them.

 Academics

The Westminster community inspires young men and women of promise to cultivate a passion for learning, explore and develop diverse talents in a balanced program, to reach well beyond the ordinary, to live with intelligence and character, and to commit to a life of service beyond self. The challenging academic program, grounded in the liberal arts tradition, prepares students for academic success and the rigors of college while cultivating in them a love of learning that becomes a lifelong habit.

 Special Highlights

Community Service. Community service is open to everyone at the school, and at whatever level he or she wants to share. Students can choose how and where they want to help, and many may find that in giving they are also receiving, as is evidenced through the number of alumni who relate that they were influenced positively by their community service work as students.

Clubs & Activities. With over 30 student organizations, our students enjoy outstanding opportunities to pursue special interests, try new things, make friends, show school spirit, and realize their potential as leaders among peers.

What the school looks for in students…

“Westminster seeks a diverse community of students who demonstrate intellectual curiosity, achievement, character and leadership. We look for strong students who are additionally accomplished athletes, leaders, musicians, actors, artists or writers. We seek students who are hard-working, fun-loving performers who share our core values: community, character, balance and involvement. Westminster seeks students who bring Grit & Grace to everything they do.”
