St. Stephen’s Episcopal School, a coeducational boarding-and-day school of the Diocese of Texas, is a caring, diverse community, inclusive of all faiths and grounded in the Christian tradition, which nurtures moral growth and values the potential and dignity of every human being. We challenge motivated students to live intelligently, creatively, and humanely as contributing members of society. We develop the whole person by providing rigorous academic preparation, stimulating physical activities, and rich opportunities in the fine arts.

St. Stephen’s students have multiple opportunities to develop their own gifts and pursue their own passions in an atmosphere of mutual respect and support. As a boarding-and-day community, St. Stephen’s doesn’t shut down at the end of the class day. Many of the students and teachers call campus home. Students from across Texas and around the world live in St. Stephen’s dorms; approximately half of their teachers reside in adjoining faculty housing.

Because boarding and day students share the St. Stephen’s experience, the lessons of boarding life are impressed on all: responsibility, personal accountability, self-discipline, the value of community, and living with people from diverse backgrounds.

 Academics

The St. Stephen’s academic program is designed for able, motivated young people who plan to attend college. Much is asked of these young people in terms of time, dedication, and effort while at St. Stephen’s. In return, they receive a world-class education from teachers who are deeply committed not only to teaching but also to the success and well-being of their students. Small class sizes and personal interaction with faculty, both in and out of the classroom, ensure that every student can develop his or her potential to the fullest.

 Special Highlights

Devil’s Canyon Wilderness Program. Students who are drawn to nature and wilderness adventures find satisfying experiences in the Devil’s Canyon Wilderness Program (DCWP), named after a canyon in the 430-acre St. Stephen’s campus. Much of the program’s training and study takes place on the school’s unspoiled Hill Country acres, but students and faculty also participate in wilderness expeditions throughout Texas, the Southwest, Mexico, and the world.

The Observatory. Planet peeping and stargazing for the entire St. Stephen’s Community. The observatory will be open for family, friends, alumni, and students for viewing of carious celestial objections on Saturday nights. It is a great opportunity to observe and learn about the night sky.

What the school looks for in students…

“We look for students with a previous record of academic achievement, good communication skills, and co-curricular activities. It is helpful during the admission process if students visit campus prior to completing the application.”
