Among the woodlands, wetlands and wildlife of the hills of Southwest Portland lies the unique educational experience that is Oregon Episcopal School. The school occupies a 59-acre campus where 840 students in Pre-K through 12th Grade share an excellent faculty, a college preparatory curriculum, and a strong sense of community.

Offering a true liberal arts curriculum, OES is dedicated to scholarship and an enriched academic environment of “learning by doing” that strives to help each individual reach his or her fullest potential. Small classes provide intimate learning environments that allow teachers to instill in each student a love for learning and the joy of discovery.

The purpose of Oregon Episcopal School is to prepare students with promise for higher education and lifelong learning and to enhance their intellectual, physical, social, emotional, spiritual, and artistic growth so that they may realize their power for good as citizens of local and world communities.

 Academics

At OES, learning from day one is active, not passive. Students don’t just study science—they do it. They don’t just read great writers, they write…and write, and write. They don’t just listen to teachers, they ask questions. Each experience leads to the next one, always driven primarily by the passion and persistence of the student who serves, in effect, as the architect of his or her education.

 Special Highlights

Winterim. When the redbuds and flowering cherry trees burst into bloom, a creative surge goes through the Upper School. Students knock off from their regular studies and delve intensively into one or two activities or topics for a week before spring break arrives. Some activities involve hands-on projects that result in a product students can take home at the end of the week.

Buddy Family Program. Buddy families are an important part of the Residential Life Program at OES. The Buddy Family Program connects dorm and day students outside of the classroom and broadens the opportunity for cultural exchange. It is our hope that the dorm students will gain a “home” away from home, learn more about Portland, and experience “family.”
