Fryeburg Academy is set in a classic New England village, in the foothills of the White Mountains. It is a community offering a sense of belonging to all who come, and a backbone of support to all. It is close to the ocean, rivers, lakes and 800,000 acres of White Mountain National Forest, so outdoor activities are limitless, every season of the year.

Fryeburg Academy is an independent secondary school that serves a widely diverse population of local day students and boarding students from across the nation and around the world. The Academy believes that a strong school community provides the best conditions for learning and growth. Although much has changed since John Hancock signed Fryeburg Academy’s charter in 1792 and Daniel Webster served as Headmaster in the early 19th century, the Academy remains a unique American institution—a boarding school unlike any other in the nation.

We strive to create a supportive school environment that promotes respect, tolerance, and cooperation, and prepares students for responsible citizenship. Within this context, the Academy’s challenging and comprehensive academic program, enriched by a varied co-curriculum, provides the knowledge and skills necessary for success in higher education and the workplace.

 Special Highlights

Entrepreneurship. The Center for Entrepreneurship is an educational, technical assistance, small and medium sized enterprise advocacy and consultancy. Located at Fryeburg Academy the center is one of the few of its kind in the Northeast at the secondary level. Instruction is provided by experienced entrepreneurs using proven and tested teaching materials with over twenty years of experience.

Global Studies. The global studies program at Fryeburg Academy is designed to complement students’ educational experiences by exposing them to the complexities of our global society. By focusing on geography, economics, cultures, world languages, the environment and service learning opportunities, students will expand their awareness of our rapidly changing world. This program is open to all students.
