Founded in 1881, Dana Hall School in Wellesley, Mass., is an independent boarding and day school for girls in grades 6 to 12. Placing emphasis upon sound academic education and the preparation of each individual for college and for life, the School balances exposure to new ideas and the challenge of analytic and creative thinking with concentration on the development of self-esteem, leadership, and respect for others. As a school for girls, Dana Hall provides female students with a particularly advantageous environment for both education and self-development.
Dana Hall School is committed to fostering excellence in academics, the arts, and athletics within a vibrant, caring community. With emphasis on integrity, leadership, diversity, and service as well as on respect for self and others, Dana Hall provides its students with a unique opportunity to prepare themselves for the challenges and choices they will face as women and citizens of the world.
Academics
When Dana Hall first opened its doors in 1881, the School’s leaders set out to create a place that challenged young women to meet rigorous academic standards, emphasized exploration of athletics, the arts, and service, and provided its students with the resources and skills they would need to be successful global citizens. As we celebrate our 130th year, I am happy to report that those early goals are still being met each and every day on the Dana Hall campus.
Special Highlights
Writing Program. We’re especially enthusiastic about our success in teaching writing—a skill we emphasize in courses throughout the curriculum, and through an extensive writing portfolio you will build through your junior year. Dana’s Writing Lab also offers one-on-one writing advice—whether you’re building your skills or working up to your first novel. As our alumnae tell us unmistakably, no other skill they gained at Dana has served them better than the ability to speak and write with confidence, clarity and flair.
Riding Center. Located right on campus, our Riding Center offers complete stable facilities and classes ranging from beginner to advanced, with instruction to suit every level of rider. We emphasize confidence, safety and control at every level, building confidence, self-discipline and teamwork through our focus on hunt-seat equitation.
