Cranbrook Schools is located on a beautiful 315-acre campus, known as one of the masterpieces of American architecture. In 1989, it was designated as a National Historic Landmark, an honor accorded only two other independent schools in the United States. Sharing the grounds with the Schools are the Cranbrook Academy of Art and Museum (1932) and the Cranbrook Institute of Science (1930) both considered preeminent in their fields.

Cranbrook Schools are independent day and boarding schools that provide students with a challenging and comprehensive college preparatory education. We motivate students from diverse backgrounds to strive for intellectual, creative, and physical excellence, to develop a deep appreciation for the arts and different cultures, and to employ the technological tools of our modern age. Our schools seek to instill in students a strong sense of personal and social responsibility, the ability to think critically, and the competence to communicate and contribute in an increasingly global community.

 Academics

We have a developed strategy; one that has the benefit of years of experience and a thorough understanding of the changing landscape of college admission. Our strategy is simple. Offer the best academic program at the best private boarding school in Michigan. We develop an individualized program for each student. Our students excel in their passions and foster new interests. They are offered challenging and rigorous coursework at all levels and in all academic subjects—college level classes in math, science, English, history and foreign language. Our prep school program allows each student to create a path that allows them to achieve their goals.

 Special Highlights

Academic Support Services. The International Student Life Office can provide international students with added assistance in regard to their studies. Academic Support acts as a liaison between international students, teachers, and deans. This service may help students who are facing challenges with language or other academic situations unique to the experience of an international student. They advise in course placement, determine English proficiency, and review course material.

World Night. Learn the quiet precision of Chinese calligraphy, and explore African dance through the ages. There are more than twenty countries represented in the Cranbrook Kingswood student population and World Night is an annual celebration of all the unique cultures and traditions that comprise the CK.

What the school looks for in students…

“We are looking for sincere, honest self-portrayals from our applicants. We are not looking for ‘bells and whistles’, just a good understanding of the student as he or she is.”
