Students and teachers work together as a community of learners dedicated to intellectual rigor and creative endeavor. In a caring and challenging atmosphere, students discover and develop talents as scholars, artists, and athletes and are encouraged to find their voices.

The school is committed to embracing and broadening the diversity of backgrounds, perspectives, and talents of its people. This diversity fosters respect for others and genuine exchange of ideas. Common trust challenges students to balance individual freedom with responsibility and service to a larger community. Such learning prepares students for lives as committed citizens.

 Academics

Our students are encouraged to think with analytical power, imagination, and creativity. Concord Academy offers no academic prizes or awards, and the school does not rank students or emphasize competition. Instead, we invite students to stretch and grow by exploring a wide range of subjects that will highlight and develop their talents, lead them in new directions, and help them grow in skill and confidence.

 Special Highlights

Departmental Study. In special instances, however, some students may have gone beyond the scope of the material offered in the regular curriculum. For this reason, departments include in their offerings a Departmental Study course. To apply for a Departmental Study, a student must consult with his or her advisor about readiness to undertake independent work.

Gund Museum and Studio Day. This biennial field trip offers students, faculty, and staff intimate tours of Boston-area museums including the Museum of Fine Arts, the Institute of Contemporary Art, the Museum of Science, the DeCordova Museum and Sculpture Park, and the Addison Gallery of American Art. Oftentimes students meet with museum curators behind-the-scenes, or visit area artists in their studios. The biennial Studio Day event began in 2004 and is an extension of the Museum Day tradition.
