Blair Academy is situated on 423 hilltop acres adjacent to the village of Blairstown, New Jersey. Blair was coeducational until 1915, when it became an exclusively boys’ school. Coeducation was reinstated in 1970 with great success. The school welcomes student and faculty members from a variety of cultural, economic, ethnic and educational backgrounds. Students in grades nine through twelve and a select number of postgraduates, almost without exception, are college-bound.

The Blair experience provides students many opportunities to achieve excellence and learn to become their “best” selves. Yet the Blair experience and a Blair diploma are never ends in themselves. Blair expects worthwhile accomplishment in life. We expect students to prepare for and attend a college or university that will further their intellectual and personal development. And with Blair as a foundation, graduates are ready when called upon to serve and lead.

 Academics

All the ingredients – beautiful campus, useful classrooms, good teachers, engaged students – exist against the backdrop of a complex adolescent culture, a world filled with challenges to every society and culture, and the reality that there are individual issues of family and life circumstances that affect each girl and boy at Blair. Knowing that, faculty members work with each student as he or she seeks to realize the educational and personal goals that brought these boys and girls to Blair. That commitment to our overarching mission defines this community.

 Special Highlights

Model UN. In recent years, the Model UN delegation has attended conferences at University of Pennsylvania, Rutgers University, and Georgetown University. Student participants take the role of a particular country and learn the art of diplomacy in passing legislation expressing the viewpoint of the country which they represent.

International Awareness Club. Blair International Awareness Club (B.I.A.C.) brings together Blair’s international students and students from the United States to learn about each other’s cultures and languages. The Club meets weekly to practice language skills in a social setting.

What the school looks for in students…

“Blair is interested in students who seek the satisfaction of personal achievement through an experience that is both broad and challenging. We are looking for motivated students with strong character who are determined to make the most of their secondary school years and are looking to prepare for college and beyond by being active participants in an engaging environment.”
