Annie Wright’s strong community cultivates individual learners to become well-educated, creative, and responsible citizens for a global society. As the oldest all-girls school in the Pacific Northwest, Annie Wright Upper School has a rich and respected heritage of educating young women. For girls in grades nine through 12 who are ready to develop authentic passions and make a well-rounded education a priority, Annie Wright offers an extraordinary and enduring educational experience based around four experiential pillars: the all-girls experience, the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program, college and SAT-ACT preparation, and performance-based activities program.
Through a student-centered education, we aim to provide a challenging, balanced program that supports our young women to reach their academic potential. We are proud that, through small class sizes, differentiated instruction and engagement of our teacher, every student at Annie Wright is well-known by the teachers and treated as an individual.
Annie Wright Upper School prepares girls extraordinarily well for college, offering small classes, motivated and independent-minded peers, an exceptional faculty, and an evolving curriculum to meet the particular requirements of this century. More importantly, we prepare girls for a lifetime of learning, instilling in our students genuine curiosity and the courage to ask questions, seek creative answers and meet the challenges of a rapidly-changing, complex and culturally-diverse world.
Theatre Program. The theatre program at AWS supports students through the exploration of acting, directing, stage managing, and set design. Students who move through our theatre program gain a complete mastery of the stage. The same holds true for film. Our students learn how to shoot, light, and edit, as well as write, direct, and act. Both programs require students to perform on a regular basis. If you love theatre or film, these programs are not to be missed.
Trips and Retreats. Students in grades nine through 12 participate in two or three trips or retreats throughout the year. These include high ropes courses in the mountains, rock climbing, and overnight outdoor trips as well as retreats on standardized test prep and an 11th grade weeklong trip to visit a variety of colleges.
