Student: Alice Fu | College: Emerson College
Introduction: Hi, I am Alice, a current freshmen majoring in Business of Creative Enterprises at Emerson College in Boston. I was very lucky to have a consulting team like Vinnie and Xenia mentoring me step by step preparing for college. They provided great help when it came to planning extracurriculars and feedback on my application essays. I finally chose Emerson because of it being a small liberal arts college, which allows me easier access to professors, smaller class sizes, and better preparation for grad school.
1.) Please tell me about your experience at Emerson College.
Though it’s only a semester at Emerson, my experience has been great. I love being in the city, meeting new people every day, and there have been so many opportunities for new students to get involved. The campus is nice and Boston is well known for their great transportation, so you can pretty much take the train or walk to everywhere.
2.) What’s the international community like there?
Unlike high school, the international community here at Emerson is diverse, and there are students from all over the world. International students are equipped with great support from English learning courses to writing support.
3.) What is the best thing about studying there so far? What do you find unique about the university or surprising maybe…
The best thing about Emerson is its unique academic system. Unlike other universities, Emerson values creativity and collaboration with other students. Instead of giving out tests and quizzes, the majority of important assessments are projects and papers that allow us to explore topics more deeply and help us learn more useful skills.
4.) What are some activities you’re involved with there? Briefly describe…
I have been involved with class council where I served as student ambassador. Our role is to organize events for the freshmen class and let students have the chance to participate and get to know their class better.
5.) What’s your favorite local food since you’ve been there?
Even though Boston is famous for seafood, which is good, I’ve found Italian and Mediterranean food to be my favorites so far.
6.) What advice would you give to other students planning to attend university overseas?
Don’t be afraid to try new things. There are so many opportunities and different ways you can get involved, so just give it a try.
