UNC sits on a 729-acre campus in the suburban city of Chapel Hill, which is often considered one of the best college towns in the country, offering music, restaurants and shopping. On campus there are a wide range of student activities including The Daily Tarheel, UNC’s student newspaper, and WXYC, the student-run radio station. Our unique school spirit has been forged through more than two centuries of academic excellence, public service, and athletic, professional, and personal achievement.

Academics

UNC is divided into a number of schools and colleges, the largest of which is the undergraduate College of Arts and Sciences. During the first two years, students complete general education courses that comprise the foundation of undergraduate education, beginning their studies in the College of Arts and Sciences. These two years offer freedom to explore interests and learn about the University, and find an area of focus. UNC offers more than 70 majors and minors within 60 departments. UNC’s student-faculty ratio is 13:1, and the school has 38% of its classes with fewer than 20 students. Popular majors include Communications, Biology, and Psychology.

Student Reviews…

“I have loved my time at UNC so far. My first year was difficult because of the college adjustment, but now that I am in a major I enjoy and am taking classes that interest me, everything is fine. One of my favorite things about UNC is the study abroad department.”
