Middlebury College is a private institution that was founded in 1800. It’s located on a rural 350-acre campus in the Champlain Valley between the Green Mountains and the Adirondacks in the small town of Middlebury, Vermont. Students can join more than 150 organizations on campus. For skiers, Middlebury has 17 trails on the Middlebury College Snow Bowl ski area. The school also competes in “Muggle Quidditch” and founded the International Quidditch Association based on the sport from the “Harry Potter” novels. Middlebury also hosts the country’s oldest Winter Carnival, featuring a ski competition and music. All freshmen are required to live on campus and are assigned to one of five Commons, which provide academic and social activities. C.V. Starr-Middlebury Schools Abroad has more than 40 schools in 16 countries for students to study abroad, and more than 50 percent of juniors study abroad.

Special Highlights
Midd Ventures. The Midd Ventures Club is a student organization that aims to connect, foster, and celebrate the entrepreneurial spirit throughout the Middlebury College community. An entrepreneur is anyone who wants to innovate and create value, such as an economics major starting a t-shirt company, or an artist finding a new way to deliver, promote, or create their work. Our goal is to align students, alumni, faculty, and community interested in entrepreneurship and innovation.
Special Collections. Special Collections serves as a liberal arts laboratory. We are a place for hands-on, immersive learning, imagination, and innovative approaches to research, access, and teaching. The David Family Library, one of the three campus libraries, features collections that range from a cuneiform tablet to contemporary pop-up books; rare books, manuscripts, photographs, audio and video recordings; the College Archives; and other unique materials that tell the story of our past.
School Mission & Unique Qualities
Middlebury College is distinct among its peers as it provides an international network of undergraduate and graduate resources and programs. Middlebury is a welcoming community characterized by strong friendships, stimulating coursework, inspiring connections with faculty and staff, and rich experiences in and beyond the classroom. Want to study economics? Combined with architecture? Play soccer and major in neuroscience? Almost half of each graduating class majors in more than one subject, with multiple opportunities for cross-disciplinary discovery. That is the essence of a Middlebury education. Living the Arts: We are painters and sculptors, actors and songwriters; we attend gallery openings and rock concerts. Our students, faculty, and staff engage with the arts as both creators and viewers. Much of our arts activity happens in the Mahaney Arts Center (MAC), but the making and appreciation of art happens everywhere—on campus, in town, throughout New England, and the world. Middlebury is also home to the Bread Loaf School of English, and the Bread Loaf Writers’ Conference, one of the oldest and most prestigious writers’ conferences.
Student Reviews…
“Middlebury can get cold, but it has provided with me with everything I could have wanted from a LAC. Phenomenal academics, great student life. The grounds are beautiful, tucked in the mountains and surrounded by nature that is protected and preserved by the college.”
