Emory University is a private institution that was founded in 1836. It sits on a 630-acre campus in the suburb of Druid Hills near downtown Atlanta. The Student Programming Council organizes events and performances throughout the year, including from well-known entertainers and musicians. A popular student organization is Volunteer Emory, which oversees community service activities. Regardless of whether they participate in varsity athletics, all students are required to take two courses in physical education. First- and second-year students are required to live on campus, but a majority of students remain on campus all four years. The latest additions to the Atlanta Campus include buildings for cancer research, biomedical research, scientific computation, mathematics and science, vaccine research, and the performing arts.

Envisioning Baroque Rome. As one of the featured projects of Emory Center for Digital Scholarship, this digital humanities project provides an online, 3D, walkable reconstruction of the city of Rome ca. 1676, using the gaming platform Unity. Visitors can enter the streets of the Baroque city as virtual pedestrians and navigate various sites and scenes. Envisioning Baroque Rome recaptures piazzas, streets, fountains, and architecture lost to the urban renewal campaigns of the intervening centuries.
School Mission & Unique Qualities
Emory University’s original campus was established in Oxford, Georgia in 1836. The 56-acre campus, located 38 miles east of Emory’s Atlanta Campus, is home to Oxford College. Entering freshmen can apply to Emory College, which offers a liberal arts education within the heart of a major research university. Students also can apply to Oxford College where they spend the first two years before transferring in their junior year to the Atlanta campus. Oxford and Emory College students can also apply for junior year admission to the Goizueta Business School to earn a Business Administration degree. Emory’s Atlanta Campus, established in the early twentieth century, covers more than 600 acres in Atlanta’s historic neighborhood of Druid Hills. The University campus is heavily forested with pine, maples, oak, and magnolias, and Peavine Creek, a branch of the Peachtree Creek, runs through the campus.
Student Reviews…
“The campus is one of the most beautiful and safest I have seen. New buildings are constantly being built or older ones remolded. The people are truly the heart of this institution. Students and faculty provide a welcoming and intellectually stimulating environment.”
