Drew University is a private liberal arts school that was founded in 1867. It’s been nicknamed the “University in the Forest” because of its wooded 186-acre campus in the affluent suburb of Madison, New Jersey. At Drew University, students aren’t far from New York City, a hub of internship opportunities, weekend activities, and more. For students who’d like to spend more time in the city, the school offers a variety of programs, including a Wall Street Semester and a United Nations Semester. Drew guarantees student housing on its Madison campus, and many students take advantage of the guarantee for all four years at school. There are more than 90 student clubs and organizations available. Drew’s hometown of Madison is a 50-minute train ride from New York City and was previously named the third safest college town in the United States, and the safest college town in New Jersey.

The campus features the Drew Forest Preserve, an 80-acre expanse that was previously restored with the planting of 1,100 native trees and shrubs by the university community and volunteer assistance from pharmaceutical manufacturer Pfizer, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and the New Jersey Audubon Society. The University’s campus also features an arboretum containing a mixture of native and non-native trees, plants, and two small glacial ponds supporting populations of sea life and various species of birds.
