Dalhousie University is a large public research university in Nova Scotia, Canada, with three campuses in Halifax, a fourth in Bible Hill, and a second medical school campus in Saint John, New Brunswick. Studley Campus in Halifax serves as the primary campus; it houses the majority of the university’s academic buildings such as faculties, athletic facilities, and the university’s Student Union Building. The campus is largely surrounded by residential neighborhoods. Founded in 1818, Dalhousie is one of Canada’s oldest universities, attracting upward of 20,000 students from around the world, including roughly a quarter international students. Dalhousie University is a member of the U15, a group of research-intensive universities in Canada. With the largest selection of courses in Atlantic Canada, Dalhousie offers over 200 degree programs in 13 undergraduate, graduate, and professional faculties with more than 4,000 course offerings. The wide range of programs means students can build a degree that speaks to who they are or who they want to become. Programs include: Agriculture, Architecture and Planning, Arts and Social Sciences, College of Continuing Education, Computer Science, Dentistry, Engineering, Graduate Studies, Health, Law, Management, Medicine, and Science. Special Highlights

Student Leadership Academy. The Dalhousie Student Leadership Academy is an innovative program dedicated to developing leaders through all stages of their post-secondary education. Through a progressive, three-tiered approach, the Academy cultivates lifelong leadership skills, inspiring students to act and create positive change. Students can also benefit from scholarship opportunities and a living learning community. The Academy is designed to help students on their leadership journey. Through workshops, hands-on learning, and mentorship opportunities, students can learn how to create change in their communities. There are three connected programs within the Academy, each aligned with social impact and purpose-driven leadership models, and aligned with students’ unique strengths, interests, and goals. The program also includes engaging keynote speakers and the Student Leadership Academy Conference.

Strategic Research Clusters. Dalhousie University is renowned for its strategic, collaborative research. Within our network of centres and institutes, Dalhousie researchers, staff, and students work together to maximize their impact in key areas of study. In relation, scholars come together from across disciplines into six Strategic Research Clusters to address some of the world’s most difficult questions and complex challenges. These include: Sustainable ocean; Healthy people, communities, and population; Climate tech and clean energy; Culture and society; Sustainable food systems; AI and digital innovation. The Dalhousie research centers and institutes are interconnected with these six areas comprising more than 30 in total. For example, the Sustainable ocean cluster includes Ocean Frontier Institute, Canadian Institute of Fisheries Technology, Marine and Environmental Law Institute, and Institute for Comparative Genomics (ICG).

Dalhousie also hosts the headquarters for the Ocean Tracking Network.
