Ohio State University—Columbus is a public institution that was founded in 1870, its setting is urban, and the campus size is 1,665 acres. Students on the Columbus campus select from 15 colleges, 200+ undergraduate majors and 275 masters, doctoral and professional degree programs. OSU offers a Personalized Study Program where students can design a nontraditional education. Students can join several enrichment programs, such as University Honors or the Morrill Scholarship Program, to enhance what they learn in their majors. OSU’s student-faculty ratio is 19:1 and 27% of classes have fewer than 20 students. Popular majors include Communications, Psychology, and Finance.

Research Experiences for Undergraduates. The Mathematical Biosciences Institute (MBI) administers a multi-institution summer research program in the mathematical biosciences each year. REU participants work on projects in areas such as molecular evolution, neuronal oscillatory patterning, cancer genetics, epidemics and vaccination strategies, and animal movement. Participants work individually or in pairs under the guidance of expert mentors to make specific research contributions in these areas, often leading to a peer-reviewed publication and conference presentations.
