Worcester Academy exists to instill in its students the desire to learn throughout life, to engage passionately with the world around them, and to be honorable persons of strong and resourceful character. We are a community—curious, thoughtful, generous, and thriving in our diversity. We embrace each of our core values as essential to the mission of Worcester Academy and as testimony of our beliefs and commitments.

Located in Worcester, Massachusetts, the Academy is a private, independent, co-ed day and boarding school for grades 6 to 12 and postgraduates. Our historic urban setting, diverse community, and challenging curriculum provide students with a solid, real-world education.

Visit us and you’ll find motivated students and exceptional teachers engaged in dynamic, experiential learning. We challenge assumptions and collaborate in search of a greater understanding of our world. Our Middle School utilizes an interdisciplinary curriculum that teaches students how to think critically, logically, and analytically. Our high school curriculum includes over 30 Honors and AP courses, 5 language choices (including Mandarin), 42 arts offerings and a math program that is recognized throughout New England for its rigor.

 Academics

Education means preparing for success in the real world. At Worcester Academy, the educational experience is as engaging as it is rigorous and challenging. Learning happens in the classroom, on campus, throughout the city, and around the globe. Our students focus on both classic studies and up-to-the minute subjects. We make use of the most innovative technologies and practices, while centering our curriculum on traditional principals of responsibility, excellence, and achievement.

 Special Highlights

Athletic Facilities. The crew team rows on Lake Quinsigamond and store their shells at the Donahue Rowing Center in Shrewsbury, Massachusetts. The hockey teams practice and compete at the New England Sports Center in Marlborough, Massachusetts, a 15 minute drive from our campus. The golf team plays at Cyprian Keyes Golf Club in Boylston, Massachusetts. The ski team competes at Wachusett Mountain Ski Area in Princeton, Massachusetts.

Hillpoppas. The Hillpoppas are a student directed “collegiate” a cappella ensemble. Most of their arrangements are created by the members. The Hillpoppas fill an important spot in the choral music program, offering students opportunities as leaders and composer/arrangers working in contemporary styles. A full musical theater production is mounted by the upper school each year. Recent productions include: The Mystery of Edwin Drood (2011), Seussical (2010), Anything Goes (2009), Into the Woods (2008).
