Proctor is nationally known for its innovative experiential programs, community of individuals, and its balance of academic rigor with structured support. AP and honors sections complement Learning Skills in this unique 3,000-acre school. Strong visual and performing art offerings challenge accomplished artists and encourage novices. Competitive athletics include teams in most sports. Opportunities for students to study off-campus include trimesters in France, Spain, and Costa Rica, along with Mountain Classroom and Ocean Classroom programs. Motivation, passion for activity, and strong character are key to admission.

 Academics

Academics at Proctor offer a core curriculum of college preparatory courses augmented by an extensive, rich array of electives. Honors sections in science and mathematics and Advanced Placement courses in twelve subjects provide rigorous challenges to highest achieving students. The school is distinguished by experiential programs wholly unique to Proctor. These range from on campus electives in Forestry, Wildlife Science, Climate Science, Advanced Poetry, Surveying, Kinetic Metal Sculpture, Organic Chemistry, Forensics, Environmental Social Science, Boatbuilding and Chinese Language to prototypic off campus study at Proctor in Spain, European Art Classroom, Ocean Classroom, Mountain Classroom, and options to study at The American School in Marrakesh, Morocco and the Country School in Costa Rica.

Academic planning is critical at Proctor due to the diverse set of options available to each student. Each year, students meet with their advisors to map out a “Four Year Plan” that advances consideration of core requirements, electives, specialization and experiential programs.

 Special Highlights

European Art Classroom. Based in Aix-en-Provence in southern France, European Art Classroom is an elective nine-week winter term dedicated to the finest arts and culture of Western Europe. Students prepare for excursions to museums in Florence, Italy; Paris, France, and Brussels, Belgium through intensive two-week programs in Aix. The three separate excursions are culminating experiences, as students enjoy extensive time at several of the world’s legendary museums, including the Galleria degli Uffizi and the Louvre.

Afternoon Program. Proctor’s Afternoon Program: The breadth of afternoon activities offered at Proctor reflects the school’s commitment to the growth of unique individuals. While fielding top-flight athletic teams (most supported by junior varsity squads), the school offers a broad selection of alternative activities spanning the arts and diverse support programs, ensuring that every student exercises personal choice in the design of a customized Proctor experience. What we share in common are a commitment to fitness, healthy activity and community pride.
