Founded in Lake Placid, New York in 1905, Northwood is an independent coeducational boarding school for students in grades 9-12/PG. The school is located in an Adirondack village that has hosted the 1932 and 1980 Winter Olympics and has served as the home of the Lake Placid Center for the Arts; consequently, it offers unique outdoor, athletic and cultural opportunities. The School is 2 hours from Montreal, Quebec, Canada; Albany, New York; and Burlington, Vermont. The 85-acre campus is nestled in the heart of the village and at the base of Cobble Mountain. The Adirondack Mountains surround the village and are a beautiful backdrop for the School…

The school’s academic program emphasizes rigorous preparation for top colleges in a supportive, structured, small-class setting. All students benefit from the availability of an experienced and dynamic faculty, almost all of whom reside on campus. The standard curricular offerings are supplemented by Advanced Placement and honors courses and a solid set of electives.

Special Highlights

College Guidance. The foundation of Northwood’s approach to college counseling is to know each student well, understanding the environment in which they will excel, and finding the school at which they can achieve their dreams. Our college guidance program includes five professionals dedicated to supporting students and their families though the college search and application process.

Golf at Northwood. The Lake Placid Club is Northwood School’s home golf course for practice and competitive matches. The Lake Placid Club is a public course that offers 45 holes of golf between the Links and Mountain Courses (2-18 holes courses) and the Pristine 9 (9 holes).
