As Northwest Pennsylvania’s only International Baccalaureate School (grades 9-12), Mercyhurst Preparatory School offers this prestigious educational opportunity to students from all over the world.

Mercyhurst is a four year co-educational Catholic secondary school founded by the Sisters of Mercy to prepare students from all religious and ethnic backgrounds for a successful, productive, and compassionate life in an ever-changing and interdependent world. A Mercyhurst Prep education is based upon the teachings of Jesus Christ, the charism of Mercy, and a modeling of Judeo-Christian values. We strive for excellence in academic and co-curricular programs, we promote service to our local and global communities, and we foster the dedication and active support of the students, parents, faculty, staff, and alumni of the Mercyhurst community.

 Academics

MPS has been twice recognized as a National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence by the United States Department of Education. In addition, we offer the rigorous International Baccalaureate Program. In order to meet the needs of our students, several academic levels are offered along with a recommended course of study and minimum grad requirements: College Prep, Honors, and International Baccalaureate. Mercyhurst Prep is known for offering electives that enable students to find their own niche. With electives such as Design Online, Intro to Flight, Hydrologic Systems, and Career Internship, students delve into the education process and begin fine tuning their individuality.

 Special Highlights

Global Education. Student government plays an important role in leadership and school decision-making. The school year is rich in activities, ranging from dances, concerts, and after-school movies to the fun tradition of our annual Laker Day celebration that involves the participation of students, faculty and staff.

What the school looks for in students…

“MPS seeks hard-working students who strive to learn and want to challenge themselves academically. We prefer students who would be a good fit for our program based on their character, leadership, academics, and sense of willingness to do well.”
