MacDuffie is a small school with a rich liberal arts curriculum directed toward a diverse college-bound student body. Our students are a strong community of learners who are challenged to reach their full potential in and out of the classroom. Our mission is to instill in our students intellectual habits of mind, respect for diversity, and high ethical standards. Our small classes, a dedicated and caring faculty, and strong student leadership contribute to well-rounded students who experience great success after they graduate from MacDuffie.

MacDuffie also creates fertile ground for exploring artistic and athletic interests. Students develop the ability to communicate well, verbally and in writing, recognizing that genuine communication involves learning to question, analyze, and probe in the pursuit of understanding.

 Academics

Students at The MacDuffie School will find a well-rounded and rigorous curriculum that includes a focus on leadership development, global stewardship, and appreciation for diversity. These skills prepare students for the next step in their academic career. MacDuffie alumni find themselves well prepared for their college courses, especially given the curricular emphasis of critical thinking and writing skills. Graduates often display multiple talents and interests that have been nurtured through far-reaching extracurricular programs. In particular, students have the opportunity to work both collaboratively and independently in their course work as well as in community programs, as the skills they learn in these settings translate well to post-graduate life.

 Special Highlights

Student Life. Students attending The MacDuffie School enjoy a fulfilling student life program that provides them with afternoon activities, weekend activities, and trips all over New England. Nearby towns such as Amherst and South Hadley provide accessible entertainment and shopping for students. The school also coordinates trips to various attractions such as the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston Museum of Science, Harvard University Campus, MIT Campus, Fenway Park, and various other Boston-area destinations.

The Art Program. The purpose of Art Education at MacDuffie is to facilitate the student’s needs to express himself/herself, to help the student develop empathy for others, and ultimately to enhance the student’s life long after he/she has completed formal education. In order to appreciate visual and performing art, the student is exposed to performances and to actual works of art.
