BRS is an all-boys, college preparatory boarding school grades nine through twelve. We are a private school that serves young men who respond well to small classes, a structured environment and a strong sense of community. Our faculty challenges each boy to reach beyond his current level of performance and expectation to discover his potential. We develop character by nurturing qualities such as integrity, courage, perseverance and empathy.

We specifically focus on helping boys reach their potential through personalized, structured, innovative learning practices in a college preparatory, all-boarding community. Blue Ridge School has been built upon the values of integrity, civility and a strong sense of work ethic. Our code of conduct is unique in the way that it is written for both our students and the adult members of our community. Additionally our code incorporates the concept of Brothers’ Keeper—promoting a peer culture of responsibility and obligation to each other.

 Academics

Blue Ridge School provides capable and willing young men an environment where they are able to develop and enjoy academic success and personal growth. An education at Blue Ridge School is holistic, with intellectual, social, spiritual and emotional dimensions. We believe in training the mind to think critically and creatively. Our caring and professional faculty and staff not only believes in developing skills needed to succeed in an increasingly interdependent, technology-based world, but also in developing the virtues needed to be good people, responsible citizens and assets to society.

 Special Highlights

Afternoon Outdoor Program. The Afternoon Outdoor Program is offered during the fall, winter and spring trimesters. The program offers an array of on-campus outdoor activities which take place during the scheduled athletic blocks in the afternoon. Tuesdays and Fridays this group has the opportunity to head off-campus to take advantage of the Blue Ridge School’s superb location for adventure activities; including rock-climbing, hiking, canoeing, skiing, snowboarding and mountain biking. This can serve as an athletic credit.

Spiritual Life/Chapel. Blue Ridge School is committed to the development of the whole student—his spiritual maturing no less than his intellectual, physical, and emotional growth. In keeping with that commitment, students are required to attend regular weekday and Sunday chapel services. The School’s chaplain, an Episcopal priest, is available to students who wish to speak with him. He makes a special effort to reinforce the faiths of students from Jewish, Muslim, and Buddhist backgrounds.

What the school looks for in students…

“We look for international students who are dedicated to their studies, interested in trying new things and meeting new people, and who are overall nice kids. We especially look for kids who will fit in well with our school community.”
