Brock University is a comprehensive university that’s home to more than 19,000 students, rich academic programs, and world-class research. Located in Ontario’s scenic Niagara region, an hour from Metro Toronto and 20 km from the US border, Brock offers all the benefits of a young and modern university in a safe, community-minded city with beautiful natural surroundings, and is one of a handful of universities in the world to be situated in a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. The university bears the name of Major-General Sir Isaac Brock, who was responsible for defending Upper Canada against the United States during the War of 1812. Brock’s marquee programs include Medical Sciences, Child and Youth Studies, Oenology and Viticulture, Digital Humanities, Teacher Education, Co-op Accounting, and Sport Management. After investing more than a quarter-billion dollars into infrastructure, Brock has some of Canada’s most advanced post-secondary facilities, such as the Cairns Family Health and Biosciences Research Complex and the Marilyn I. Walker School of Fine and Performing Arts.

Academics

The university offers more than 70 undergraduate and nearly 50 graduate degrees through seven academic faculties: Applied Health Sciences, Education, Humanities, Mathematics and Science, Social Sciences, Graduate Studies, and the Goodman School of Business. Brock is home to 13 Canada Research Chairs and is in the top five of Ontario universities for the number of 3M National Teaching Fellows. Brock is a leader in experiential learning. Its Co-op, Career and Experiential Education department, one of the most innovative in Canada, helps more than 2,500 co-op students seek relevant employment. The student-faculty ratio at Brock University is 27:1. Popular majors include Psychology, Communication, and Education.

Special Highlights

Student Life. University clubs are grouped into three categories: Cultural, Religious, and International; Social, Recreation, and Activist; and Faculty and Departmental. Students are also welcome to start clubs of their own. Brock Intramurals are active all year, with sports such as volleyball, flag football, slow-pitch, water polo, ball hockey, soccer, baseball, and tennis; and also include tournaments in coed Quidditch, coed wallyball, coed ultimate, coed football, and basketball. For social events, there’s Brock’s Skybar Lounge, run by the Brock University Students’ Union in the Student-Alumni Centre. Some notable year-round events include Frosh Week, Homecoming, O-Week and President’s Ball. Community engagement is highly encouraged at Brock where students have logged more than 65,000 volunteer hours on average per year.

BEGIN@Brock. BEGIN@Brock is an overnight orientation program designed to help incoming students transition smoothly into life at Brock. Taking place directly after Smart Start, BEGIN kicks off with our Campfire Social where students can get to know one another, have dinner, and enjoy some games and a campfire. Following an overnight stay in a Brock Residence, students will participate in interactive workshops, a downtown experience, and social activities. Our program provides opportunities to build connections, develop essential skills, and explore campus and community resources. Students will gain confidence in navigating academic and social life, meet peers and student leaders, and feel a sense of belonging before classes begin. By the end of the program, students will feel prepared, supported, and ready to start their Brock journey.

School Mission & Unique Qualities

In addition to financial aid, the Student Wellness and Accessibility Centre at Brock offers many student-focused support services, including counselling, academic assistance, health and wellness, research, and writing skill development. Brock University Student Union (BUSU) manages over 100 clubs and associations that are closely linked to culture, religion, sports, and hobbies. The campus is 65 minutes from Toronto Pearson International Airport, with excellent public transport connectivity. Brock University residence ranks highly in Canada for on-campus accommodation, housing more than 2,800 students in seven on-campus residence halls. The residences offer modern amenities, including meal plans, Wi-Fi, parking, and furniture, in addition to 24-hour security. Off-campus options include shared private apartments, single rooms, and houses with lounges. All accommodations are within walking distance of campus and offer excellent public transport connectivity.
