“Global Studies” and “International Education,” have almost from the first days of the school’s founding 135 years ago, stood at the heart of Tabor’s philosophy and practice. International students have attended Tabor for more than a hundred years and Tabor students have been traveling to foreign lands for decades. Tabor is fortunate to be able to strike a healthy balance with about 70 of its 500-plus students representing some twenty countries around the globe. Tabor is American in its independence, its democratic commitment to individuals and, its energy to achieve as a community.

Tabor Academy is also international in its commitment to the health of the planet, its enthusiasm and embrace of the cultural richness of the world, and respect for the complex history and often steeply challenging issues across the globe.

 Academics

Global Curriculum is Tabor’s commitment to providing academic opportunities to read literature, study history, discuss current events, and experience first-hand the essences of the world’s cultures and traditions. We aim to arouse curiosity about the unfamiliar and the unknown, and at the same time to provide a foundation of language and understanding to make sense out of and develop expertise in subjects ranging from Global Ethics and Asian History to Caribbean Studies and Marine Science. We believe that the best of the Western academic tradition includes both a careful grounding in fundamental values of honest and objective inquiry, ethical understanding, and historic values and faiths, combined with openness to people and traditions from around the world and an ability to work with and adjust to other cultures.

 Special Highlights

The Center for International Students. This was created in 1993 to provide a focal point for Tabor’s International Students and to help them to integrate fully into the community life of the school. The physical location of the International Center, including a student area and faculty office, at the center of the Academic Building is a symbol of the intersection of different traditions that we believe can enliven the life of each Tabor student and faculty member. Rather than cutting International Students off from the community, the International Center’s goals are integration and contact. Many Tabor graduates will remember their friendships and experiences with international friends and international travel as a unique highlight of their years at Tabor, a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to connect with the unknown or unfamiliar at the most essential and rewarding level of human friendship.
