Stuart Hall School is a college preparatory, co-ed day school for students in grades 4 to 12 and boarding school for students in grades 8 to 12. Located on two campuses in Verona and Staunton, VA and founded in 1844, our history and tradition are rooted in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia. We offer a progressive curriculum, small class sizes, and the personal promise of tailored, intentional instruction. Stuart Hall School recognizes the unique qualities of every student, and in the context of the Episcopal tradition, seeks to educate the whole student, Mind, Body, Heart, and Spirit.

The campus is located in the historic district of the city of Staunton, Virginia, which is home to the Woodrow Wilson Presidential Library, Mary Baldwin College, the American Shakespeare Center’s Blackfriars Playhouse, the Frontier Cultural Museum, Blue Ridge Parkway, and a variety of restaurants, coffee shops, and boutiques. Nearby Charlottesville, offers additional cultural and sporting events at the University of Virginia, and, within 2 hours’ drive, Richmond and Washington, D.C. offer even more historic and cosmopolitan opportunities for our students.

 Academics

Stuart Hall School offers a cohesive Pre-K through 12th grade education designed to instill a solid academic foundation in every student from age four through graduation. Our rigorous, but supportive curriculum gives students a solid foundation in fundamental skills from an early age, encouraging them to think critically and independently while developing a natural intellectual curiosity and confidence. Simultaneously, our program fosters a respect for and appreciation of community, with an emphasis on leadership, honor, creativity, global engagement, and service. A graduating senior recently said, “Stuart Hall makes you great at what you’re good at.”

 Special Highlights

Foreign Film Club. This club is for the movie lovers. We will watch a variety of foreign movies played in their original languages with English subtitles, as well as classic films. The movies will be age appropriate. It will take several club sessions to finish a movie. There will be an open and informal discussion about the movie after its completion.

Dorm Council. The Dorm Council provides boarders with the opportunity to shape their own residential experience at Stuart Hall. Council members are elected in the first month of school and meet with the Residential Life Coordinator weekly thereafter. The Residential Life Coordinator works with the OCF staff to address the concerns of the Dorm Council.
