The Noble’s Classical School, known informally as “Nobles,” was founded as a boys’ day school in 1866 by George Washington Copp Noble. In 1892, James Greenough, mathematics and science teacher, became Mr. Noble’s associate. The School changed its name to Noble and Greenough and moved to 97 Beacon Street in Boston. In 1922, it became a Country Day and Boarding School and moved to its present site in Dedham, Mass. With the advent of coeducation in the mid-70s, the student body eventually increased, and currently stands at more than 560.
Academics
Nobles is a place where you will develop, grow and stretch yourself in the classroom. Teachers set high expectations and will encourage and expect you to perform at a high level on a daily basis. Nobles currently offers more than 25 AP level classes that prepare students to take the Advanced Placement exam.106 elective courses are offered in many disciplines, including psychology, languages and computer science.
Special Highlights
Clubs & Organizations. Students’ clubs and organizations meet during free blocks of time during the school day, after the academic day or during the evening. Many activities, like photography and community service, which are clubs at other schools, are part of the Nobles academic or afternoon program. Noble’s students pursue longstanding passions, test out budding interests and forge friendships with peers and faculty. Every year the Nobles Theatre Collective brings interested students to New York City for a long weekend of Broadway and off-Broadway productions.
Assembly at Nobles. Four mornings a week, before classes, Middle and Upper School students, faculty and staff come together for morning Assembly. Here we share the news of the day, make announcements, give recognition, exchange points of view, perform for one another and grow as a community. Regardless of who is asked, this activity is often mentioned as a favorite because of the unique dynamics of our community.

What the school looks for in students…
“As Nobles is an academically rigorous institution, we are looking for evidence of strong academic performance and achievement in school. It is also important for us to see that an applicant has pursued their interests outside of their academic life as a way to become a better-rounded person. We care very deeply that an applicant is eager to join our school and be an active part of our school community. There is no one “mold” of a student that we are looking for. We are looking to build a community that represents diversity in the broadest sense.”
