Since its founding in 1910, Garrison Forest School has offered an indelible educational experience designed to help students achieve their fullest potential and live lives of purpose. Guided by our motto, Esse Quam Videri—To Be Rather Than To Seem, the academic program balances exceedingly high standards within a welcoming, spirited atmosphere that enables each student to flourish intellectually and individually.

At Garrison Forest School, we prepare our students in and out of the classroom to thrive in a complex, changing world by: challenging them to strive for academic excellence and to grow into informed, independent, and creative thinkers, cultivating an authentic and resilient sense of self, grounded in respect and integrity, creating a diverse and inclusive community built on a spirit of caring, and inspiring young women to lead and to serve with passion, purpose, and joy.

 Academics

Garrison Forest provides an academically rigorous program rooted in the close relationship between teacher and student. Our faculty encourages students to embrace both process and outcome so that students learn not only by doing, but in doing. Both the Garrison Forest education and experience inspires students to reach their full potential and to live lives of purpose.

 Special Highlights

Entrepreneurship. The Women in Science and Engineering (WISE) Program is the outcome of a groundbreaking partnership in 2005 between Garrison Forest School and The Johns Hopkins University to establish a critically needed mentoring program. It aims to encourage young women from Baltimore and around the country to pursue their interest in science and engineering. The program links students with faculty mentors in the Johns Hopkins University Schools of Engineering, Arts and Sciences, and Public Health.

Global Studies. Any afternoon when you walk down to the barn, you can see students of all ages and experience tacking up horses and preparing for lessons. Riding Facilities on the 110-acre campus have recently been expanded. In addition to our existing 44-stall barn and 100′ x 200′ indoor polo arena, the expansive Smith Equestrian Center has a 46-stall barn with adjoining 120′ x 225′ indoor riding arena. Our facilities also include two large outdoor sand rings and a dressage ring. The barns are equipped with tack rooms, wash stalls, laundry rooms, offices, and bathrooms. The new Smith Equestrian Center also contains changing rooms and a lounge/classroom area. A 30-acre field provides ample space for cross-country schooling.
