Founded in 1823, Foxcroft Academy is an independent secondary school offering comprehensive college preparatory courses, technical education programs, and support services for day and boarding students. The school is committed to developing responsible and informed citizens, critical thinkers, and collaborative leaders. Foxcroft Academy is a community promoting the development of integrity, character, and skills necessary for life-long learning.

Forty faculty teach courses ranging from beginning Chinese to Advanced Placement in all the core disciplines. Many of the teachers have dedicated their entire professional careers to Foxcroft Academy. More than half hold advanced degrees in their areas of specialization. But there is more to Foxcroft Academy than academics. We believe it is important for students to become involved in their own development. So the Academy fields many sports teams offering three season competition for both boys and girls on the varsity and junior varsity levels. Clubs and organizations including language clubs, Key Club, the National Honor Society, math team, student government, theater, and music round out the extracurricular offerings. If you have an interest, chances are we have an activity for you.

 Academics

Earning a Foxcroft Academy diploma is a challenging yet important step for students who wish to be successful in the competitive, dynamic, and global modern economy. Our curriculum is detailed beyond the course level to specify individual concepts and skills that students are expected to learn in their classes. This standards-based academic system supports our mission by ensuring that there are no gaps in what students know, so that strength in one area does not mask weakness in another. We grade based on the premise that well-supported students held to high expectations will rise to the occasion. The academic system is enriched further by the diversity of our community of learners, providing an invaluable opportunity to develop knowledge and skill in an environment of multicultural collaboration.

 Special Highlights

Weekend Residential Life. For those who love the outdoors we offer many unique experiences associated with northern Maine. Students will experience the Moosehead Lake Region, Baxter State Park, as well as Acadia National Park, with opportunities for hiking, white water rafting, whale watching, biking and rock climbing adventures plus easy access to beautiful rivers, lakes, as well as the Atlantic Ocean. With an average snowfall of over eight feet, our location is ideal for all types of winter sports, including snowmobiling and snowboarding.

Independent Study. Students with interests beyond the regular curriculum are encouraged to ask a faculty member to oversee an Independent Study program. Independent Study programs are for the enrichment and extension of the regular curriculum and may not substitute for specific courses required for graduation.
