Message from the Head of School: If you are looking for a unique educational experience in a safe and supportive environment that encourages discovering your potential in grades 6 through 12, I invite you to discover Dunn. In the Dunn community, we understand that every single student arrives with certain talents and gifts. These gifts may be immediately apparent in the classroom or on the athletic field, or they may be as yet undiscovered potential, waiting to be realized in an art or music room, on top of a mountain, or behind a podium. Discovering the passion of each individual and cultivating that passion into their personal vision of the future is why we are here and what we do best.

The mission of the Dunn School community is to educate the whole student to his or her fullest potential in preparation for a life of learning and responsible leadership in society. To accomplish our mission, we as students, teachers, staff, parents, trustees, and friends are committed to understanding and living by five core values: Academic Excellence, Emotional Wellness, Physical Readiness, Social Responsibility, and Moral Courage.

 Academics

Academic endeavors are the cornerstone of Dunn School. Students are challenged, supported and given every opportunity to achieve their best. Academic achievement is gained through preparation, involvement, responsibility and hard work. We believe the depth and quality of the relationship between students and teachers are central to our process of education. Small classroom sizes and continuous contact with personal advisors help forge this relationship to support students in their intellectual growth.

 Special Highlights

The Academy Program. In the Academy, students and faculty members alike investigate new material, share scholarly reactions to that material, and generally become equals in the marketplace of ideas. Any interested student is welcome to join the Academy. Members of the Academy will be designated as such along with a printed explanation and illumination of the program so that university admission officers will have an understanding of the extraordinary length and breadth of an Academy education.

Outdoor Education. The Outdoor Education Program is a leadership development curriculum for all grades. The program is founded on the belief that the primary function of leadership is to facilitate the achievement of communal goals. To give students a toolbox for becoming effective leaders, the program includes the development of interpersonal skills such as basic communication, feedback, conflict resolution, and decision-making. It also challenges students to participate in and take responsibility for the formation of group goals.
