Chatham Hall prepares girls for college and productive, fulfilled lives. We esteem equally the intellect and character of each student. A community of honor and trust, we value our Episcopal heritage and welcome students from diverse backgrounds. Our rigorous educational program encourages intellectual growth, creative development, and personal responsibility.

At the core of everything we do, both in the classroom and beyond are the Honor Code and Purple and Golden Rule. Together, these principles help maintain our unique, trust-based community, one in which every person is challenged to live each day with integrity. At Chatham Hall, trust is given before it’s earned; once given, each person has the responsibility to keep it. Students, teachers, administrators, and staff all live by a system of shared values, rather than one of restrictive rules. Chatham Hall is a community of learners and friends.

 Academics

Faculty members mentor as well as teach, often inviting students into their homes. Alumnae are active and engaged, working tirelessly for their alma mater and its current students. College leadership encompasses a unique blend of administrators, students, alumnae, business leaders and parents—a blend that works for the school and for our students.

 Special Highlights

Independent Study: Discovery Challenge. Discovery Challenge is a one-trimester independent study program that offers students on the dean’s or rector’s lists the opportunity to pursue a topic of particular interest in depth under the guidance and direction of a faculty mentor of their choosing. Emphasis is on the processes of exploration and discovery, with students learning to locate and use resources, analyze information, and present findings.

Advisor Program. When you first come to Chatham Hall, you might feel new but you’ll never feel alone. Before you even arrive, you will be given a faculty advisor-a mentor who will help make your first days at the school easier and the course of your education flow smoothly. You advisor will likely be one of your classroom teachers. You’ll always have someone here who knows YOU and how you’re doing.

What the school looks for in students…

“Grades are the most important factor in the admissions process, with most accepted students earning “A”s and “B”s. The Admission Committee also looks for intellectual promise, strength of character, personal integrity, motivation to succeed, a willingness to participate in school life, and a strong desire to attend boarding school. We get to know each of our applicants through their transcript, test scores, essay, recommendations, and interview, as well as through frequent phone contacts.”
