Fordham University is a private institution that was founded in 1841. Its setting is urban, and the campus size is 93 acres. At Fordham, “New York is [your] campus” as the school’s website says. With campuses throughout New York City, students live and learn in the thick of an urban experience. The school’s original Bronx campus, Rose Hill, is in walking distance to the Bronx Zoo, New York Botanical Gardens, and Little Italy. Today, Fordham has two more campuses: Lincoln Center, which is close to Central Park, and Westchester campus, which is in West Harrison, NY. Freshmen do not have to live on campus, but any student who is promised housing upon admittance to the school is guaranteed a room for four consecutive years. Students can travel between campuses on the school’s Ram Van, a burgundy shuttle that runs every half hour. The four-year Global Business Honors Program selects incoming freshmen with stellar high school academic records and prepares them for high-level roles in the world’s most dynamic firms and organizations.
Academics
Fordham University is classified among R2 Doctoral Universities: High Research Activities. Undergraduate students can choose from more than 70 majors and minors and complete a core curriculum that spans literature, history, science, theology, philosophy, and the arts. Among Fordham’s graduate programs is the highly ranked Fordham School of Law, which is home to the first Fashion Law Institute in the country. Graduates and undergraduates alike may take advantage of the Louis Calder Center, a biological field station where environmental studies courses and research are conducted. A dozen graduate students a year can live in log cabins on the biological field station to be closer to their research. The student-faculty ratio at Fordham is 14:1, and the school has 52% of its classes with fewer than 20 students. Popular majors include Finance, Business, and Psychology.
Special Highlights
Community Engaged Learning. Fordham’s Center for Community Engaged Learning sponsors courses according to an asset-based approach to engagement. We bring the institutional and academic resources of the University together with the leadership, experience, and richness of our communities to enhance student learning, support faculty research, and build on community strengths. Students mobilize abstract concepts they learn in the classroom by engaging in real-world challenges. They enhance memory and retention by teaching new ideas to young people in local schools and centering on reflective practices together with their classes; and they hone civic leadership skills by partnering with officials and organizations to work for change.
International and Study Abroad Programs. Through its International and Study Abroad Programs (ISAP) Office, Fordham provides its students with over 130 different study abroad opportunities. The programs range in duration from six weeks to a full academic year and vary in focus from cultural and language immersion to internship and service learning. Some of the programs are organized by Fordham itself, such as those in London, United Kingdom; Granada, Spain; and Pretoria, South Africa; while others are operated by partner institutions like Georgetown University, the University of Oxford, and the Council on International Educational Exchange (CIEE).

Student Reviews…
“Gorgeous campus, close knit student body, and the perfect distance from NYC! There are tons of career and networking opportunities in Gabelli. I actually enjoyed some of my core classes. The dorms are average, some are nicer than others. Rose Hill is definitely better for people who want a college experience on a college campus while also having access to the city.”
